PEACEFUL WINTER SNOWFALL
|
 |
February is one of the coldest months of the year and it is in the middle of the winter and spring solstices. Our days are getting longer and there is a blanket of snow on the ground. The trees are bare and the branches are covered in snow. We hurry through the cold to our car and into the buildings we are going to. The snow falls and we see the snow ploughs clearing the roads. The winter sports are in full action – hockey, skiing, sledding, and snowboarding etc. When was the last time we took the time to walk through the snow and enjoy the quiet? Robert Frost has a beautiful poem called "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening". I love the lines "The woods are lovely, dark and deep" and "To watch his woods fill up with snow" – what beautiful lines and they give you a feeling of peace. The other line I love is "The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake" and then it ends with "But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep". There is nothing as peaceful as the snow falling and raising your face to feel the falling snowflakes coolness. There is a quiet in snowflakes falling that empties your head of noise if you listen. So often we miss the quiet and peace of February as we hurry along our way. Take the time to watch a snowflake drifting down and allow yourself to enjoy the quiet. |
